Drew on Inauguration day, Jan. 2009: “It’s like Obama got on stage, told us we’d get taco bell and candy everyday, that there would be a DJ playing IN homeroom, ki-ci and jojo would play AT our next dance AND we’d all get to date the head cheerleader IF he were elected president. And here’s the crazy thing: I don’t think he was kidding. Because today was the real deal, and I’ve never seen America this happy in my waking life. And it felt good. And I’m REALLY happy I voted him student body president right now. I feel like it’s free cone day at the ice cream store, except it’s free UNLIMITED ICE CREAM DAY at the ice cream store. It’s a pretty cool feeling. And it tastes delicious.”

Right about now maybe the connection starts to be made between UNLIMITED FREE ICE CREAM for the Muni unions and the actual service the schmucks on the street waiting for the bus get.

You see, Drew, the problem with unions, socialism, free health care, is that sooner or later you run out of ice cream.

I certainly hope none of you are rooting for Obama’s fucked up healthcare plan, because you are going to get the same fucked-up, uncompetitive, inefficient, price-gouging experience you now enjoy with your bus service–and that is really going to suck.

It is so immensely gratifying to see San Francisco and the state of California get the kind of government they voted for good and hard. Enjoy paying more for increasingly less. Oh, and don’t forget to give all those oppressed government workers a raise. What? You don’t want to? Not to worry, Sacramento will find new ways to pick your pocket while you are all standing at the last bus stop for a long, long time.

Ah, I was wondering when the class-baiting posturing would start.

If you want to do some social justice posturing, consider the effects on the working poor and unemployed who have to pay more for public transportation. Consider all the people that could be hired from the unemployment line if MUNI cut drivers salaries in half, increased service and hired more drivers.

I don’t hate bus drivers getting paid six figures. I hate bullshit, and the reason they are paid more than college professors is bullshit, and it hurts a lot of people to benefit a small class of people (the union members). The self aggrandizing class warfare can go both ways, and the drivers are making so much they are no longer “lower class,” whatever that means. They are now part of a privileged class abusing their power.

“Defending it either means you enjoy being a contrarian for it’s own sake (which I can somewhat appreciate) or you’re clueless (which I can’t).” In the spirit of that ‘either I’m right or you’re wrong’ ad hominem attack I will counter by suggesting that for you to defend your side means you’re either an ill-informed know-it-all a-hole possibly racist republican (which I can’t tolerate) or clueless (which I can).

Denver’s RTD has twice as many “lines” but carries LESS THAN HALF THE DAILY PASSENGERS (Average weekday boardings: 331,121
), so using it as proof of anything is probably not a good idea. And let’s face it we live in the second most expensive Metro area in the US it is going to be more expensive to operate here. And Denver is facing a budget shortfall and service cuts, just like MUNI.

And let’s be clear. I’m not defending it because I’m clueless or argumentative. It’s because the busses come by all the f%ing time. There are hiccups but they carry an enormous load. People like you seem to just hate the fact that the bus drivers (that is not an easy job) get paid more than you think they deserve because they are to you lowerclass.
